The English football league one (often known as league one) for short is the second highest division of the English football league and the third overall in the entire English football league system it was founded in the year 1920 and since it has changed its name e.g. in 1920-1921 it was called as division three,1921-1958 as division three north/south 1958-1992 as division three 1992-2004 as division two

There are 24 clubs in league one. each club plays every club twice at home and away. three points are awarded for a win, one for a draw and zero for for the lossing side at the end of the season a table of the final league standing is determined based on the following order points obtained, goal scored, goal difference and aggregate of the results between two or more clubs
At the end of the season top two teams are promoted with the winner of play-offs between the teams which finishes in 3rd -6th position is promoted to efl championships and are replaced by the three teams that finished at that division. Similarly, the four clubs finished at the bottom of epl league one are relegated to epl league two and are replaced by top three
